"There are certain comments I just never want to hear again. Telling people Fio has health complications meant dealing with people's emotions, questions, statements and often unwanted advice. "You're also dealing with telling people," Lucille says. While Lucille and her partner were juggling doctors and check-ups on top of the exhaustion and emotions of having a newborn, there was another problem. "I remember just looking at his eyes really intensely and not saying anything to my partner because I didn't want him to worry," she says. He had problems feeding, and after a couple of days she noticed one of his eyes wasn't quite right. Lucille knew her son Fio had an issue with his kidneys - he only has one - before he was born, but after birth it became apparent that wasn't the only thing going on for him. It's also one she has no time for.Īs she explains, there's simply so much more you can give a parent than that question. It's a question Lucille Cutting has heard too many times.
